Countries in Pictures – Travel Talk Series – PALAU by Mr. Vincent WONG

Countries in Pictures – Travel Talk Series

Traveling to world’s ancient countries through talks and rich collections of pictures

PALAU by Mr. Vincent WONG

Officially the Republic of Palau, it is an island country in Micronesia subregion of Oceania located in the Western Pacific, which is one of the smallest countries in the World. The islands were settled 3,000 years ago by Polynesian migrants from southeast Asia as part of their maritime expansion in the Pacific Ocean in completing the last phase of Homo sapiens global expansion. The islands have been ruled by Spain, Germany, Japan and then the United States after winning a fierce battle with the Japanese in World War II. The country's 340 islands are very picturesque due to their unusual geology and geomorphology. The "Rock Islands" composed of lime stone are internationally famous. In recent years, Palau has become a popular tourist destination, particularly by snorkel and scuba divers who are attracted by its rich marine life, including the harmless golden jelly fish and dugongs, as well as World War II relics. It is also most interesting to try out the delicious coconut crab and fruit bat soup.

Testimonials from participants of previous travel talks and study tours led by Vincent:

“I have learnt a lot on this subject!”

“Very comprehensive indeed. Thanks!”

“Very useful guide for my future trip!”

”Now what I have seen makes much more sense. Thank you!”
