Countries in Pictures – Travel Talk Series- Sri Lanka by Mr. Vincent WONG

Countries in Pictures – Travel Talk Series

Traveling to world’s ancient countries through talks and rich collections of pictures

SRI LANKAby Mr. Vincent WONG

Sri Lanka may be a small country, but it has a lot to offer. Its 2,000-year history is very colourful. The development of the Buddhist religion, which spread all the way to China and beyond, has left behind many beautiful relics. Its strategic location in the Maritime Silk Road has further cemented its position following the visits of Admiral Zheng He, Arab merchants and European colonists. The island state has plenty of scenic attractions, varying from ancient cities, Buddhist temples, colonial towns, gorgeous tea plantations to quaint beaches. It is also home to many endemic plants as well as wildlife, such as elephants and leopards. Eight of Sri Lanka's attractions are now classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Sadly, in modern times, the island state has suffered greatly from a long and bloody civil war as well as a gigantic tsunami. Its economy is also in a very poor state which will take time to recover.

Testimonials from participants of previous travel talks and study tours led by Vincent:

“I have learnt a lot on this subject!”

“Very comprehensive indeed. Thanks!”

“Very useful guide for my future trip!”

”Now what I have seen makes much more sense. Thank you!”
